What is Mezenin? And a brief history of me

Photo by Hamed MP - Aug 2020

Well, you might start asking "What the heck is Mezenin?" or "How on earth you came up with this name?", I'll answer everything behind this blog shortly after in this post.

Yesterday marked the 3rd year from my first arrival in Sweden after a summer school in Decentralized Production and Industry 4.0 summer school. During these years I had an opportunity to evolve at an enormous pace, personally, mentally, and financially.

Thanks to being surrounded by friends and colleagues active in financial markets and investing landscape, I could quickly pick up different financial tools, mental models, and hacks along the way, enabling me to save money, invest regularly, and move toward my goal of financial freedom.

Mezenin

This blog is the centralization of my learnings in this journey, starting from explaining all the different items affecting our income and costs to how to use them to our advantage. The main audience of this blog is immigrants (a.k.a. expats) living in Sweden, who might not be fully aware of how financial systems here work. In one sentence, Mezenin will be the bible for financial questions of residents in Sweden.

Of course, I'll be sharing other useful tips and stories that can be interesting for anyone around the world and also Swedish people, but lack of content and material in English bothered me for a long time. This is my attempt to fill a tiny hole in the knowledge of the universe.

Mezenin is inspired by "Mezzanine /'mɛzəniːn/" which is a type of debt financing used by private equity firms to finance their merge and acquisition activities.

Apart from being a highly leveraged form of financing, it's short and easy to remember (reminds me partly to Mozzarella).

As someone with a Computer Science background, I count this as my "Hello World!" post but I'm impatient to share everything I'm planning to share with you.

Here are the example topics:

  • How to start investing in stocks? How to open an investment account?
  • Everything you must know about taxes in Sweden.
  • Insurances in Sweden: Which one I should get?
  • Buying an apartment or villa? A step-by-step guide with tools and services.
  • Different types of loans and how to get a lower interest rate?

Let me know what you are looking to learn and any tips or suggestions you might have.

In comments, tell me: What was your biggest challenge dealing with the Swedish financial system?
